The People's Power Party: A Brief History

 The People's Power Party (PPP) is a conservative political party in South Korea. It is currently the ruling party in South Korea, having won the 2022 presidential election and the 2024 parliamentary election. The PPP's origins can be traced back to the Democratic Justice Party (DJP), which was founded by Roh Tae-woo in 1987. 


In 1990, the DJP merged with the Democratic Party and the New Democratic Republican Party to form the Democratic Liberal Party (DLP). The DLP changed its name to the New Korea Party (NKP) in 1995, and then to the Grand National Party (GNP) in 1997. In 2012,the GNP changed its name to the Saenuri Party (SNP). 


In 2017, the SNP changed its name to the Liberty Korea Party (LKP). In 2020, the LKP merged with the Future United Party (FUP) and the People's Party (PP) to form the PPP.
