Details of the 1983 Akita Earthquake in Japan
The earthquake, which occurred 80 kilometers west of Akita Prefecture, killed 104 people in Japan. In addition, it was the first earthquake to die directly or indirectly from a tsunami after liberation in Korea, and the tsunami that occurred at that time flocked to the east coast of Gangwon-do, killing or missing three residents in the port at the time.
Emergency earthquake breaking news did not exist at the time. The emergency earthquake breaking news was established on October 1, 2007, 24 years after the 1983 Akita earthquake. If issued, it would have been dropped off in southern Hokkaido, Akita, Yamagata, Aomori and Iwate prefectures.
