How to convert the Sonnet Breakaway Box from 350W to 550W.

The Sonnet EGPU box is simple, so it's okay, but the disadvantage is that 350W has 15 watts of PD output and 60 watts of developer version.

It can attach SFX power with high output, but the PD output does not change.

At least MacOS is less, but the 60-watt power output in the boot camp continues to decrease in the case of a 15-inch MacBook Pro.

But there's still a way.

You can replace it with firmware that supports PD 87 watt output. Sonnet Breakaway Box and MANTIZ MZ-02 (VENUS) use the same circuit board. Mantes is a dot card with USB, SATA, and LAN ports added, and only PD 87 watt output support is different. Sonnet boards have the same dot card slots.

The firmware is at egpu.io.

If you zoom down, you can receive the firmware TUL: Mantiz Venus [25.187W].

And get tbt-flash.sh from the terminal, run it, and choose according to the step-by-step menu. If you select the firmware as the file you have received, it will be uploaded and finished in one reboot. Note that you should enter recovery mode and set it to SIP disable and start-up security safe.

In the EGPU box, graphic card removal status, Thunderbolt device other than EGPU are separated. Until Catalina, tbt-flash.Sh is available right away, but Big Sur cannot run because it does not pass the system version check.

I need to change the script a little bit.

► macOS compatibility check

check_macos_version() {

  macos_leap_ver="$(printfn "${macos_ver}" | cut -d '.' -f1)"

  macos_major_ver="$(printfn "${macos_ver}" | cut -d '.' -f2)"

  macos_minor_ver="$(printfn "${macos_ver}" | cut -d '.' -f3)"

  [[ -z "${macos_minor_ver}" ]] && macos_minor_ver=0=

  [[ (${macos_major_ver} < 15) ]] && printfn "\n${bold}macOS 10.15 or later${normal} required.\n" && exit

}

Find this part and change the number 15 to zero.

Then, the version check passes. And the firmware flash was successful without errors in Vixer. (Vixer Beta5) Reboot automatically and leave it still until you see the login screen. (I think it's being flashed while rebooting.) If the firmware flash was successful without any problems, it would be changed to TUL TBX-550CA, not Sonnet.

When you move to power, it appears as an 87 watt output as above. This will completely transform the upgraded PSU into a 550 watt or higher EGPU box that can be used properly.
