Installing SFTP faster than WebDAV in KODI on NAS
WebDAV is still the most commonly used protocol for connecting PCs or external equipment (Raspberry Pie + KODI) in NAS.
It's not based on statistics, but at least around me or many sites I've seen were talking about WebDAV as the basis.
By the way, I tested the transmission speed, wondering if this was the best speed. Interestingly, SFTP was the fastest.
(SFTP is not Secure + FTP. It's a new protocol created on top of the SSH protocol)
Anyway, WebDAV is not seriously slow, and everyone uses it, so I've just used WebDAV.
WebDAV was installed on KODI, which was used by Raspberry Pie, so I didn't have to worry much.
Recently, I got interested in this part again, so I compared SFTP and WebDAV, and SFTP is also faster, but there were much fewer racks.
So I decided to abandon the WebDAV that I had grown attached to and go to SFTP.
As a client for PCs, I use the famous RaiDrive, and here it's SFTP and WebDAV, and I don't have any concerns because I'm applying for it easily.
The problem is KODI.
If you want to use SFTP in KODI, you need to install something.
Go from Add-ons to Download and select Virtual Filesystems among the items on the right. Then you can see SFTP support. I just need to install this.
With just this installed and SFTP enabled on NAS, files can be managed with even a little faster and less racky SFTP.
Even if it doesn't show much when you just save, read, and write files on your PC, you can see that the rack has decreased considerably if you move back and forth while watching a movie.
In my case, there were some racks even though the internal network was 1Gbps, but it's so great without this.
